Microskydemo_2

It just amazes me sometimes at how many different apps are available for S60 3rd edition. In the beginning people were complaining that many 2nd edition apps weren’t ported, well it’s now safe to say that most 2nd edition apps are now available for 3rd edition and it’s just amazing the amount of functionality you can add. I would like to take the opportunity to start a new segment called The Nokia Guide Application Spotlight. Our first app is a good example of the variety of apps available: Microsky.
MicroSky is a planetarium for mobile devices with Java-support and a connection to the Internet (preferably GPRS or UMTS). It is a very small J2ME-Midlet client/server application which retrieves its starcharts from the skyserver. It can display 2.500.000 stars, 8.000 deep sky objects, the constellations, the planets, local horizon, 1000 current comets, and minor planets. The great thing is that I found out that it actually uses the N95’s built-in GPS receiver, but just make sure that another app that uses the GPS like SportsTracker is open. You can get a free copy of MicroSky here. What do you think of this app? Let me know.
