I’ve had the N76 for some time now and as always I like to give my initial thoughts in a sort of “First Impressions” mini review. Not quite as detailed as the extensive reviews that usually follows but it should give you an idea where the final review is going. I really like the N76 and it should make a great phone for those that wanted a smartphone but were put of by the large (and bulky) devices out there on the market. It should also do great as second phone for those that already have a high-end N95 or E90. It’s a full blown smartphone with the usual copy, paste, S60 browser and multi-tasking goodness, only thing lacking really is the WIFI. The thing that impressed me the most is the build quality: it feels absolutely solid and well- built. With its thin dimension it’s a treat to hold. The N76 gives the impression of consisting of just two thin metal parts that are attached in the center. No unwanted moving parts, no squeaks! Compared the high-end N95, the N76 wins hand down and takes the crown as the best built device in the Nseries. Other things I like about the N76 is the fact that Nokia included tons of RAM (finally!) There’s about 40+MB available after boot compared to the measly 18MB after boot on the N95 and yes it’s got a 3.5mm jack. I tried two high-end earphones: the Etymotic ER-4P and the Shure E4c and on both it sounded wonderful with no apparent flaws. The N91 still retains the crown as the device with the best audio output quality. There were also a few things I wasn’t too crazy about. The thing is a finger print magnet and the screen is poorly visible in outdoor conditions, but is stunning inside. The mirror finish looks good, but gets dirty quite easy. Have you tried looking into a mirror on a sunny day? Well, changing the tracks while looking at the outer screen N76 is about the same experience, not very fun. Well, that’s it for now. Is there something you want me to include in the final Mega review? just leave it in the comments section. In the mean time, head on over to Gadgetnutz to read my N76 first impressions. You can also have a look at my N95 Mega review: that should give you an idea as to what to expect in the final N76 review.
