As you may or may not know Nokia has strangely blessed both the N81 and N81 8GB with FP2 –style menu transition effects with the latest firmware v 20.0.056. Let me tell you, these effects simply look great and adds a breath of fresh air to the now familiar UI. I do have to wonder however, why the N95, N95 8GB and N82 haven’t received such effects in their latest firmware updates. I definitely don’t think it’s the hardware as these devices even have the far superior TI OMAP 2420 chipset, something the N81 lacks and just like the N81 they are FP1 devices. A N82 with FP2 menu effects like the ones on the N81 could very well prove to be a capable (and cheaper) alternative to the N85. Have a look at menu effects on the N81 with the latest firmware v 20.0.056, shouldn’t the N95, N95 8GB and N82 receive such an update?

And this firmware release is from what date?
My N81 is Central European region and has the most recent firmware installed – v11. …
I wonder which region has the benefit of the update, or, how long will we wait for the update?
nokia must apply these effects to the N95,N82 right now
if they care for their customers
I would say this will indeed come to the N95′s in time, its just a matter of when.
I was hoping to see these effects in FW 30 for my n95 8gb (released a few days ago), but too bad, there not present. Well i’ll just keep hoping and wait for the next update.
“I definitely don’t think it’s the hardware as these devices even have the far superior TI OMAP 2420 chipset”
What if the transitions can’t make use of the OMAP’s hardware 3D acceleration and have to rely on the cpu-speed which in those freescale based handset are around 40 MHz faster than the OMAP’s.
I think Nokia has more important things on their plate (since they do care for their customers), but as long as the transitions don’t slow things down and can easily be turned off, I don’t mind if they add them. Don’t miss them either.
Hi Devin, I totally agree, these transitions will give a more stable look to the phones UI. At the moment its all airy fairy. One thing they have taken out is the stuttering when changing from potrait to landscape. so they clearly knew it was an issue. Why they didn’t put them on, maybe due to market sales. N95 8GB with these transitions is not worth upgrading. I would love to see these effects implimented. Ive been waiting more for this than auto rotation.
The N82 has just recieved an update available on NSU V30.0.019. Can anyone confirm id this has any of these transitions implimented.
Thanx
J0GEE
Just to add, V20.0.056 is not available for all N81 8GB RM-179 owners, Im one of them, and have an unbranded, sim free N81 8GB, and still stuck with V11 at the moment.
Devin, I can’t see them coming for N95s, etc. One reason might be the one stated by Myran, that perhaps they are not compatible with TI OMAP 2420.
Nokia releasing updates further than v30? Maybe only to fix bugs, but I seriously doubt any eye-candy such as transitions or Kastor UI will be included on these phones.
I think the N81 isn’t selling very well, that’s why it was Nokia’s first phone with navi-wheel, NGage, and the first FP1 with transitions.
well i think, yes they shuold! otherwise i will have to change my phone
which i dont want, i love my n95 8gb!
I hope N82 will have this feature when a new firmware will be released!
I WANT TRANSITIONS…in 6210 NAVIGATOR…plEASE …NOKIA DO SUMTHING FOR US>>!!~~
I hope N73 got the same one… Hahahaha… It’ll be amazing dude lol!
