In an effort to save energy as part of being environmentally friendly, Nokia has added a feature to newer devices like the 5800 XpressMusic, where the device instructs the user to “unplug charger from power supply to save energy.” Our tip of the day is a simple and Green one: unplug your charger from the wall outlet when your device is fully charged. This also counts for older device where you don’t get this message. It seems that when leaving the charger plugged in (not connected to the phone), it will still consume some energy, consequently energy is being wasted. As we all know, when it comes to the environment every bit helps!
I think that when updating the firmware of these devices, Nokia should not only add new features/fix bugs, but also add these “green” feature. Comments are welcome
(Green) Tip of the day: Unplug your charger!

But I receive this message even my phone is not fully charged.
What shall I do?
I have to say this message is really confusing. For may people the charge is known as a “power supply” and the message implys you should disconnect the phone from the cable, which you would normally already have done before seeing the message.
In addition, the text is just a cover for poor design. Most people have plug sockets in inconvienient places and asking them to remove them each time the phone is disconnected is more than irritating. A bit of thought in the design could produce a charger with minimal standby power usage, or even a switch built in to the phone connector. But then this is Nokia we’re talking about here….
I understand the Nokia’s efforts to Go Green, but alerting the member every few seconds to unplug the charger every few seconds though the battery is almost dead, is very irritating. It ‘ok’ to alert the user once the battery is fully charged, but not when it’s in charging mode and those beepings I hate them. This one issue is making me rethink on my purchase as I can’t have the phone next to me with it all the time while charging. Poor design by Nokia.
can you turn it off?
