Something as simple as getting the album art to show up in the S60 Music player hasn’t been as straight forward as it should be. In its current state the S60 Music player cab be considered “dumb” and not connected, lacking the ability to connect to the net and grab album art, lyrics and album info. This is something LCG Jukebox has been able to do for a while now.
Despite its shortcomings I do prefer to stick to the built-in apps like the S60 music player, for this reason album art has to be added manually. My experience with most MP3 tag editors is that while they allow you to add album art to the MP3 file, it simply isn’t displayed in the S60 Music player. The solution turned out to be the standard Windows Media Player. Here’s how to do it.
1.Add your music to Windows Media player: This is done by dragging and dropping your music in the player or by letting it automatically media by going to: Library>Add to Library
2.Open advanced Tag Editor: Once your music is in Windows Media Player. Go to the library and find the song. Right click the song and choose “Advanced Tag Editor”
3.Add Album Art: In the Advanced Tag Editor go to “Pictures” and choose “Add” to add a picture. I recommend searching on Amazon for album art. There they have 500×500 pixel pictures that are perfect for the S60 Music player. Be sure to click on the pictures to get the full 500×500 pixel version. When the album art is added be sure to press “OK” and NOT “ADD” otherwise the album art won’t be added.
Do you know any other methods that work with the S60 Music player?
How to: Getting Album Art to show on your Nokia S60 devices

I’ve been using the MediaMonkey player to actually embed the Album art. It will grab the art from the Web/Amazon and other sources presuming your mp3s are tagged even just a little bit.
I got album art to show up on my N82 by using iTunes (i know… ironic) to embed pictures in the MP3 ID3 tags. Most of my albums are setup like this…
If you add album covers to your MP3s with Mp3tag they also work in Symbian’s player. http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
David, when you use Media Monkey, does it show in the S60 music player?
@ Devin:
Yes, the album art shows. In fact, you can sync your playlists and what not directly to the phone.
I’ve noticed that on my N95 8GB, album art embeded in mp3 file don’t show up when the cover is larger than about 100 kB.
Anybody have same thing ?
Hi guys, I’ve got a strange problems, all my mp3 have the cover inside the id tag, and i clearly see it in windows and in nokia music, but when I transfer the mp3 to my n97 they don’t show, got any clues why? Thanks a lot for any help.
Covers Everywhere is an open source program for Mac that converts the covers from you mp3s so they show up in Nokia devices, as well as itunes, wmp, etc. The program doesn’t download all the covers again, it simply change them so they can appear in a nokia phone by changing the “Picture Type”, so its really fast. I updated my 150 Gb collection (20000 songs) in about 15 minutes.
I code the application for exactly the reasons you mention in the post. I hope others can find it useful.
The app is in http://code.google.com/p/coverseverywhere/
I have tried everything but I can’t make the album art to show in the built in music player on my E55. I tried the mp3tag program mentioned above, tried putting the album art as a jpeg file in the same directory as the mp3, tried editing the album art with windows media player and the new nokia player that supposedly optimises album art so that it can play on symbian phones, but nothing… Any new suggestions? thank you
Picture type should be Cover (front) or Front cover (as mp3tag displays it) This works for me. iTunes sets the cover type as “other” I gues Nokia should update their S60 players so the can siplay cover set to other types, this is just dumb.
I am a satisfied user of the Nokia N86. I found out that the solution suggested by Devin, only works in WMP on a XP system; not in WMP on a Vista system (which I’m working with); The solution suggested by daniel.t is the one I’m gonna use; that means goodbye to WMP en reload all my albums in iTunes; The music I bought in iTunes, as well as in the Nokia Music Store is well tagged; only not the music ripped in WMP, so that’s why I choose for iTunes,
This absolutely makes no sense. I have ~5000 music files and i’m expected to manually edit each individual file. Nokia and Symbian need to get their act together.
You can just use any mp3 tag editor out there really I use mp3 tag editor… Just make sure when the mp3 file you’re attatching the album art to has a large bitrate such as 320kbps, set the image to a lower resolution; such as from 500×500 to 300×300
