Ha ha ha nothing can stop the scratches if you keep the whole phone clean or not. Instead of admitting that this is a design flaw you guys are encouraging us to keep our lens clean. this is somewhat Nokias language you are speaking. Not even a single statement from nokia till date regarding this issue. WHat the hell? they think we are some ediots. What i have done is put a thin tranparent tape on the lens and thats it since a month of solid camera use not even a single scratch. This tip i guess was necessary from nokias side. By the way this was my second replacement. One thing is clear that its a biggest design blow up from nokia. If you call nokia and say what should i do to protect my cell phone from getting scratched ofcourse they will tell you keep it working, keep it away from the reach of children, do not use it under water etc. this is what all companies say once they sell their product. the reall disappointment is that they are hiding like thieves. like they know they have screwed up but they cant face the reality...

It's good that there is an article on it but the main advice is avoid the N97 until Nokia acknowledge and resolve the issue in later manufacturing batches of the phone. I've already returned 2 units with this issue to Vodafone UK. I've taken due care with the phone but the lens still gets scratched by the sliding cover which clearly demonstrates it's a manufacturing defect. All the advice in the world from Nokia care won't sidestep what is a serious quality issue with the N97.

Well done Dave for organising a petition and I've signed it too. Wake up Nokia and come clean, you are a trusted brand up to now and there is some serious competition out there. Your flagship phone is flagging!

Howdy...

I've just started an online petition to get Nokia to sort out the lens scratching issue with the N97, it's at http://www.petitiononline.com/N97lens/petition.html

We're at around 50 signatures so far, but any publicity would be appreciated...

Cheers,
Dave

# Keep the camera lens protection window clean. If dust or debris gets on the lens or under the lens cover, sliding of the cover may cause scratches on the camera lens protection window.
# When sliding the lens cover, don’t press it down heavily. Slide the cover sideways without excessive downward pressure.
# If there’s dust, sand or some other particles on the lens, clean the lens protection window before closing the lens cover.

???

and the most important tip:

please do not use the phone at all!!!!
