Reports are coming in and it doesn’t look so good for the Nokia Booklet 3G. It now seems that you’re pretty much stuck with 1GB of RAM, because the module is soldered to the motherboard and is not user upgradeable! This has probably been done to make Nokia’s netbook as thin as possible. This is definitely a big minus since upgrading to 2GB of RAM is one of the first things netbook users do.
On top of this, Nokia chose the Intel Atom Z530 processor to achieve the long battery life, but this processor is not known to be very speedy. Add the 1GB of RAM running Windows 7 and in some cases the Booklet 3G can feel rather sluggish, when compared to similar netbooks on the market. Other manufacturers like Asus who have also chosen the slower Intel Z processor have solved this problem by adding overclocking capabilities, something the Booklet 3G lacks.
It doesn’t help either that the screen is almost unusable outside due to the glossy screen.
On a more positive note, the Booklet 3G can be folded down to a nearly 180 degree angle, something that many netbooks can’t do.
Considering the premium price, the Booklet 3G has many unique features, but sacrifices on some of the essentials.
Would you still get the Booklet 3G knowing that you’re stuck with 1GB of RAM?

Crazy. Nokia skimping on memory? Never heard of that before!
Windows 7 really needs 2GB to fly. ESPECIALLY with Ovi Suite 2.0, as shown in the pic, which will cripple a 1GB device….
Hmm… i have Win7 on 7 year old laptop and its running quite fine, though it doesn’t have Ovi Suite 2.0 installed. I did install OS2 to couple year old laptop with w7x64 w. 4gb memory and it was hogging the resources… and it was nokia home server process which comes with in default installation. So im thinking that OS2 is big slower there…
I disabled nokia home server.
Sounds kinda Apple product to me. But this is still cooler than fruit stuff.
If the RAM IS hard soldered to the board, I’d guess that Nokia will offer 2 versions of the machine, a 1gig and a 2gig.
[...] 1.Can’t upgrade to 2 GB of RAM: With the Nokia Booklet 3G you’re pretty much stuck with 1GB of RAM, because the module is soldered to the motherboard and is not user upgradeable. Even an efficient OS like Windows 7 runs much smoother with 2GB of RAM. Not being able to upgrade your RAM is the biggest reason why you should not get the Booklet 3G. More info can be found here. I bought the Nokia Netbook 3G and for the purposes that I need it for, it does OK.
I messed around with Nokia’s Ovi Suite of software – it slows things down incredibly – just don’t use it. It doesn’t offer anything that’s not available in other forms.
Overall, I’d say that I’ve been fairly pleased with the Netbook 3G
I would never buy it as my primary daily use computer – and that’s not what I bought it for.
As a computer that is portable (and very light weight at that) and that can connect to cell phone networks for Internet access, it’s exactly what I needed.
I believe a lot of these complaints come down to expecting more from the machine than it was designed to deliver.
