Nokia has given an official solution to a problem that we reported here on The Nokia Guide. Several users reported that  Nokia Messaging simply stopped pushing emails from their Windows Live Hotmail accounts and that they received an email saying that: “ our email service has been unable to connect to your email service.”

Here’s Nokia’s temporary fix to the problem:

Hello,

We are currently working to resolve an issue with Windows Live Hotmail accounts in Nokia Messaging. Windows Live Hotmail require mobile phone users to resupply their password every 90 days for security reasons. We are investigating an issue some users are experiencing where their password is expiring much sooner than 90 days, resulting in a “Problem with your email” message appearing in the inbox.

Nokia and Microsoft are working to resolve this. In the interim, users experiencing this issue will have to enter their password again to get their Hotmail syncing properly.  To resupply your password, follow these steps:

E75, 6710, 6730, N86 8MP, E52, E55, or E72:

Go to Options -> Settings -> Mailbox settings -> Password and re-enter your password.

Touch devices (N97, 5800, X6):

Go to Options -> Tools -> Settings -> your-Hotmail-address -> E-mail password and re-enter your password.

All other S60 phones:

Go to Settings -> your-Hotmail-address -> E-mail password and re-enter your password.

In the future, if you see issues with the service or want to share any feedback, good or bad, about Nokia Messaging, we encourage you to email nmfeedback@nokia.com.  We can’t promise a reply to emails & you still want to use Nokia Customer Care for technical support, but, the Nokia Messaging team strives to be both reactive and proactive in interacting and supporting our users.

Thanks,

Nokia Messaging Team
