Well, what do we have here? The popular music identifying software called Shazam casually being displayed on the N900. Although clearly not a finished product, it could be a sign of that the N900 finally might be getting Shazam.

For a while Nokia’s Video-Out Cable CA-75U was that one unique accessory included with the high-end multimedia devices. With the launch of the Nokia N8, they’ll be offering a few interesting accessories in the box.
The N900 has admittedly fewer available apps outside the Maemo Extra-devel and Extras-testing catalogs, but the numbers are quickly going up . Compared to Symbian apps, Maemo apps seem more advanced and in some cases have a lot more eye candy. As apps step out of the Extra-devel and Extras-testing catalogs, we’ll be seeing more cool apps ready for Prime time, but in the mean time, these are our top 10 picks for the must-have apps for the Nokia N900.
1.gPodder
If you love Podcasting and I know a lot of you do, than you’ll love gPodder. It is essentially the best Podcasting solution for the N900. It has been gradually getting better and better with newer releases and we really like the simple interface. Another unique feature is its ability to store your subscriptions into cloud. There’s also a PC version, so the move from mobile to desktop should be seamless. Easily the app I use the most on the N900, HIGHLY recommended!
No, it’s not the attack of the giant N97 mini, but close. Thanks to our friends @WOMWorldNokia I received the biggest mobile box I’ve ever seen! And inside this giant box a Nokia N97 mini and a lot of goodies for another crazy and fun challenge. The E75 was the subject of the previous Teach the Technophobe: Challenge, but this time it’s the N97 mini’s turn in this #N97minitrunk Challenge. Who else to help me with this challenge, but Denirah, from the previous challenge.
The idea is to complete the 5 tasks using a red disposable camera with just 27 shots to capture the moments using the giant N97 mini trunk. Using the included photo album, we have to create the best “N97mini trunk album.” The winning team wins 2 N97 minis.
In honor of Earth Day, we decided to bring you a few tips that should help you save energy and be environmentally friendly using your Nokia devices.
1.Save Energy by unplugging: Nokia has added a feature to newer devices where it instructs the user to “unplug charger from power supply to save energy.” This also counts for older device where you don’t get this message. It seems that when leaving the charger plugged in (not connected to the phone), it will still consume some energy, consequently energy is being wasted. By unplugging your charger from the wall outlet when your device is fully charged, you save energy. Considering that there are Millions and perhaps Billions of Nokia devices out there, you can see how quickly the amounts of energy adds up.
2.Use Nokia’s line of High Efficiency Chargers: Nokia’s High Efficiency Chargers AC-15, AC-10 and AC-8 are environmentally friendly chargers. These chargers received a 5-star rating for energy saving as it consumes minimal power if left plugged in after the battery has fully charged, this is based on common energy-rating system for chargers. Tip number 1 still applies, but just in case you do forget to unplug your charger, you’d be happy to know that these consume a fraction of the energy when compared to other chargers. Some newer device like the N900 already come with these efficient chargers.
3.Change your phone settings: By lowering your backlight brightness and time-out, update interval for your Nokia Nokia Messaging, Close applications when not needed (Yes multi-tasking uses power and energy), switch off W-fi when not needed, set search interval for Wi-fi to “Never” and turn of Bluetooth when not in use, we can not only have a longer battery but also consume less energy.

One issue that currently stands out in the world of Nokia is the lack of an up-to-date, mainstream powerhouse. While there isn’t a shortage of devices to choose from, those choices aren’t all that exciting, at least not anymore. There is of course the N97 which isn’t all that up-to-date and the fact that it had its share of criticism for its software and underpowered hardware doesn’t help either. Symbian S60 5th edition (including its 3rd edition sibling) is also starting to look a bit aged, despite being a pretty powerful platform. There’s also the X6 and the N97 mini, which basically are variations of the N97 with their share of software troubles. And while Nokia has fixed many of these problems with recent firmware updates, it can’t make up for the lack of RAM, outdated UI, dedicated graphics chip and slow CPU.
Dell currently has a great deal on the Nokia N900. At $439 there’s even room left for an accessory or two. Click here and use the code G?G1QQRRW8R62M your price will magically drop to $439.
Today’s announcement is all about bringing Nokia Messaging, QWERTY keyboard to the masses and bringing devices to the masses is something Nokia does pretty well. The devices revealed today are also another clear sign that Nokia is simplifying its naming convention with a single letter and number.
