Nokia enthusiasts didn’t have much choice when it came the OS, either you went the basic S40 route, or as any true Nokia power user would, get Symbian. But that’s about to change. With the N8 launching soon and MeeGo devices to follow shortly after, Nokia fans are in a unique position of having the choice between 3 different operating systems: Symbian, Maemo and MeeGo. Yes, Maemo will hang around for a while, but eventually will be completely replaced by MeeGo, leaving the choice between it and Symbian.
With the impending release of the N8, Nokia powers users have the choice of either buying now or wait for the very first MeeGo device, an OS that most of us have yet to see the final product. While only a lucky few can get both devices, most of us will have to choose where our hard-earned cash will go for the next months or years, making the choice even more critical.
The N8 sports impressive specs and Symbian is a proven OS, but its dated UI might leave you wanting for something more 2010. MeeGo on the other builds on Maemo, which has a lot of eye-candy and multi-tasks like no other, but it will certainly have less apps compared to Symbian and the uncertainty behind any new OS is sometimes hard to swallow.
Are you in the MeeGo or Symbian camp? And why?
By checking up on the facts at www.dialaphone.co.uk you can compare phones and see which operating system is best for you.

I choose both!
That´s why I have the N900 and also the Nokia E71.
Up to this point, I have been more of a Maemo fan over Symbian, but I think that Symbian is changing and Maemo completely changing to Meego. Thus, I am going to wait until I use both OSes before I make a pronouncement.
Though, I am awfully fond of linux based systems. ;o)

I’d have to say Maemo is my OS of choice. For me it started with the 770. I still even use my N810 along side the N900. (see Hava player) But will I jump immediately to MeeGo? I can’t say. When Maemo first came out it was almost a pure Debian ARMEL OS with added features. Now it’s a beast of it’s own. MeeGo seems to be an ARMEL implementation of Fedora (Redhat). Being a Debian fanboy it’s hard to decide on MeeGo just yet.
Right now, I’m in the Symbian camp, and if the N8 is good, I’ll stay there for awhile. Reason: the camera software on Symbian is more mature, has more features, and it simply better than what’s on the N900 (currently still the only Maemo or MeeGo device). My old N95 spoiled me by allowing me to have a decent camera with me everywhere I go. Any replacement must be an improvement on that. I know MeeGo is the future, and when it’s mature enough I know I’ll buy a MeeGo-powered device, but not until I’m sure I’ll be getting a great cameraphone experience.
At this stage neither (was in the Symbian camp).
Symbian is taking way to long to develop and S^3 looks disappointing after the amount of time they spent on it.
Meego looks like an Android clone, what is the point of it? If you wanted an OS like Android then why not just use Android?
Both are likely to fail in North America where battles are (sadly) won and lost by the app store on the phone, not the hardware itself.
i’d like to have symbian (probably n8, could be smaller) as a phone and meego as tablet (i would probably prefer something with 5-7 inch screen)
I’m waiting for meego. If it proves to be a great OS then there’s nothing stopping Nokia to be at top again.
I’m looking for an OS that is simple to use and has proven itself. Symbian is the way to go for me. I invested time to learn how to use it (when I moved to Nokia from Apple). Now that I’m pretty good at it (I found the “U” shortcut to Bluetooth on my E71 this a.m.), I’m sticking to it.
