Nokia E7 Will Include USB OTG And HDMI Adapter cables?

As the first unboxing of the E7 starts to hit the web, we can now get a better idea as to what’s included in the box. There’s been some discussion on what will be included, specifically whether  the Nokia Adapter Cable for USB OTG CA-157 and the Nokia Adapter for HDMI CA-156 will come in the box. The E7’s product officially doesn’t mention these two accessories, but the video above clearly shows these two accessories.

Maybe Nokia decided at the very last minute to include these or  this could just be a case of specific packages for specific regions. If you’re thinking of getting the E7, it might be wise to check what’s included in the package before clicking on that buy button, but the video above gives us some hope that maybe you won’t have to buy these accessories after all.

Tip Of The Day: Restart An Unresponsive N8

RestartN8unresponsivetipofday

I’ve been using the N8 for a long time and I have yet to to experience the device getting stuck. In the case it does happen you can’t take out the battery because it’s is built-in due to the one-piece aluminum body. You can’t use the power either button simply because well, the device is unresponsive, so that won’t work either.

A neat trick is to do the following:

Press and hold down the menu button, while pressing and holding the lower volume button and the power button until your Nokia N8 turns off.

After this you can easily turn your device back on and your up running!

Update: A reader shared the following: You only need to press the on / off button for 8 seconds and voila – phone restarted.

Thanks Marcos!

Update 2: As another reader, kenosando, has pointed out that holding down the menu button, while pressing and holding the lower volume button and the power button might have the same effect as a hard reset. Which as we know is BAD BAD! So the best way right now is to press the power button for an extended perio of time.

Thinking Of Leaving Nokia?

Mobile phones

LeavingNokiaconsider012011

The mobile space has changed a lot. It’s very different from just a few years ago and there is a lot of competition. Strong competition. All good reasons why Nokia fans might be considering other brands  as their main device or as a second phone. Think again. Here are a few reasons why you should reconsider getting another device.

Nokia and it’s devices are very green: Nokia takes the environment very seriously and is considered one of the greenest companies on the planet, even getting Greenpeace’s nod of approval. Talking to many Nokia product managers shows that  environmental considerations play a huge role in every aspect from design, production and even disposal of the devices. A simple look at Nokia products reveals product packaging that seem to be getting smaller, using recycled material, high efficiency chargers and even something as simple as a message on Nokia devices telling you to disconnect your charger from the wall socket to conserve energy. Choosing other brands, many times means choosing products that are perhaps good, but certainly not as serious about the environment.

Who needs an MP3 Player? I’ve been saying it a lot and I’ll say it again: many high-end Nokia, especially from the N- and Xseries, show exemplary audio performance when it comes to the 3.5audio jack. Enough to be on par with or beating the best in dedicated MP3 players. If you have good headphones and high resolution music files, you’ll notice that Nokia devices have a cleaner, neutral output and plenty of juice to power everything but the most high-end earphones, which will require a portable amp. If you are serious about music and audio quality, you aren’t going to get the same kind of performance from those other devices. A good example of this is the N8, a device capable of audiophile performance.

Still the best cameras: Nokia really knows how to make phones and smartphones with good cameras. They even have the smartphone with the best camera in the form of the N8. When it comes to cameras, we’re talking about tons of options, great onboard editing and fast performance. The devices even excel in low-light conditions, that one area where all other brands just flat to the ground. Nokia consistently makes great cameras, not only in the most high-end devices. One of the biggest offender here are BlackBerry devices. Even popular Android devices can’t come close.  While Apple’s can compete, we’re still talking about a devices focused on the upper end of the price class.

Nokia N8 To Get Wireless Charging in Q2

N8powermatQ2

We’ve talked about Powermat, the wireless charging system before and even recommended it as one of the ultimate accessories for the N8. Here’s some more good news if you have an N8: a charging case for the Nokia N8, targeted for early Q2.  These Powermat cases usually are a hard case that has a built-in receiver on the back. This way you can simply put the N8 on the mat and it immediately start charging. It will also sense when the battery is full and instantly stop charging, a very elegant solution and definitely one I’d be interested in for my N8.

Judging by the image above it will probably be a black-only case at $39.99. Powermat this promise Powercube batteries that could replace the batteries for other Nokia devices like the 5800 XpressMusic, but it’s slow starting to look like they abandoned that idea for these cases.

7 Reasons Why You Should Choose The N8 Instead Of TheE7

Cheap Calls to India

N8E7Compared

Should I get the N8 or the E7? That’s the question many buyers are and will be facing. This is a question I faced myself, but after debating the pros and cons of both devices, one clear winner emerged: the N8. Choosing the N8 instead the E7 of course means giving up on some features, but in the end I feel it’s the more compelling package. Here are a few reasons why you should choose the N8 instead of the E7.

1.Text Input: It is widely accepted that in most cases a full QWERTY keyboard is going to be faster then any form of touch input. Based on this this reason alone, the E7 will generally seem to have  for most an edge over the N8. But before you call this a win for the E7, consider the one exception to this rule: Swype for Symbian.

With Swype installed, the N8 does come close to the speed of a dedicated QWERTY keyboard. In the proper hands and with some training it can even surpass a full QWERTY keyboard when it comes to speed. Just take look at the video below:

Swype On The Nokia N8

For Swype to work it’s magic,  you’ll need support for your native or most used languages, otherwise you won’t get any speed benefits. Currently it supports English, Spanish, Canadian French, Portuguese and has limited support for some additional languages, with more language and improvements constantly being added.
