ZAGGsparq Recalled, Owners Get A Free Replacement

zsparqrecall

The ZAGGsparq, one of the products we named “Ultimate Accessory for the Nokia N900” seemed to have a few problems charging Nokia’s latest Maemo smartphone. We weren’t sure whether this was being caused by the N900 or the ZAGGsparq, but provided a possible solution to get the two devices working.

Now it’s pretty clear that that problem was being caused by the ZAGGsparq, as ZAGG is now contacting their customers to get a replacement of the product. They are apparently working on version 2.0 of this product that should be released in late March. Current customers, including myself were contacted via phone to get the replacement in late March. Customers who haven’t been contacted should give them a call.

The ZAGGsparq seems to be Out of Stock, as they get ready to released the revamped 2.0 version. Once the 2.0 version comes out, we’ll be taking another look at it as its 6,000 mAh
battery power is still very impressive.

Have you been having trouble charging your N900 with the ZAGGsparq?

Nokia BH-904 Review

Great prices on TV Wall Brackets!

BH-904 CHarging

Introduction

When we covered the Nokia BH-804 in our First Impressions and later on in the Final review, we proclaimed it “Nokia’s most complete Bluetooth headset to date,” and still consider it one of the best headsets out there. Such a status isn’t easily achieved, of course. Most of it can be attributed to the high-quality materials, design-centric styling and considering it’s diminutive size, good wireless performance and battery life. Audio performance was also rated it as “above average.” An impressive feat for such a small piece of gadgetry. One would think that these elements are the only key for the success of such a Bluetooth headset, but as the Nokia BH-904 proves, there are different ways to reach one goal. In fact, the story of the BH-904 is one that contradicts with what is considered the current norm and completely defies current trends. This especially becomes evident when it’s compared to it’s smaller sibling, the BH-804, a Bluetooth headset that prioritizes style. As this review will show, some of these contradictions are actually in the BH-904’s favor.

New Nokia N900 CP-408 Case Quietly Appears

Great prices on TV Wall Brackets!

NokiaCP-408introWhen we reviewed the Nokia CP-321, we loved the classic design, but without any access to the microUSB, 3.5mm headphone jack, and camera it wasn’t for everybody. Nokia went back to the drawing board and magically the CP-408 appeared. From the picture above we can see that the case allows access to every single feature of the N900, including the camera. The design isn’t unknown for Nokia, as the same basic design was used on the CP-235 case for the Nokia N95 8GB. See the similarities?

You can bet we’ll review this case as soon as it comes out.

Do you prefer the classic look of the CP-321 or the utility of the CP-408?

Images Of The Nokia N900 Mugen Power Battery Appear, Set To ship in March

Great prices on TV Wall Brackets!

N900mugenpowerdraft

The first images of  Mugen Power’s N900 extended has appeared on the their site and is reported to be shipping in “limited quantity” on March 1st. This 2400 mAh battery, also known as the HLI-N900XL almost doubles the N900’s included Nokia BL-5J battery capacity (1320mAh) at the cost of a much thicker N900 that also seems to loose the kick-stand.

While this photo is  considered a “draft” we can be certain that it will make the N900 a lot thicker. In my opinion it’s at a certain capacity where it isn’t that attractive: At 2400 mAh it doesn’t seem to have enough juice to justify the thickness. The N97’s extended battery came in at a whopping 3600mAh. I’m not so sure either that I’m willing to give up the kick-stand anytime soon. They should have given it a really large capacity 3000+ mAh or just tad more than the original battery to avoid any increase in size.

If you haven’t decided yet, you still have plenty of time to think before March 1st. I’m actually looking forward to the Powermat Powerpack batteries that are set to give some popular Nokia phones wireless charging capabilities, including the Nokia N900.

A Great Little Accessory For The N900

The best deals on TV Wall Brackets!

N900fakestand1

Maemo.org member “Fake” has created a laser-cut 3-piece acrylic or wood stand for the N900 and his now taking order/pre-orders for this creation. Because he wasn’t happy with the N900’s kick-stand, he decided to create his own that not only holds the N900 at a more comfortable and stable angle, but also has a place for the stylus.

The prices range anywhere form $10 for a wooden model to two acrylic models for $30.

Mugen Power: Nokia N900 Extended Battery on the Way

MugenextendedN900012010

The Nokia N900’s BL-5J 1320 mAh battery might not be enough for some, for this reason Mugen Power is creating a 2300-2400mAh extended battery. Good news is that the battery should be available some time in February. The bad news? The battery is reportedly going to be a bit larger than the original one, requiring a custom cover, which will be included in the package.

These custom batteries  most often don’t do justice to the original design, but considering that this battery is a lot smaller than the N97’s 3600mAh version, there’s a good chance that it the N900’s version won’t be that big in size.

Is the BL-5J enough for the N900 or are you looking for a larger battery?

The N900 and External Battery: a possible solution

externalbatteriessolution2010 (2)

I’ve mentioned in a previous post how the N900 has some issues with some external batteries, including the ZAGGsparq. Some chargers like those from Proporta seem to be unaffected by this. Forum member “nef919” pointed out to a quick solution, although you will need:

-Nokia CA-146c (included in the N900’s package)

-Nokia CA-100

By connecting the CA-100 to these non-working battery packs and than  connecting it to the CA-146c and plugging the microUSB into the Nokia N900, it should work. In the end it should look like this:

The N900 and External Battery: a possible solution

powermatfornokiaces2010 Powermat is a wireless charging system for mobile device. Up until now they only supported a handful of models, with no love for Nokia. These devices used either a bulky case or dock to wirelessly charge, while Nokia handsets could be charged with a universal receiver.

Things are about to change as they unveiled their Powerpack batteries. Powermat has confirmed that that a few Nokia models will be supported and we’ve received confirmation that one of the supported models is the N97.

The idea is that you’ll be able to buy a a charging mat, swap out the included Nokia battery with the Powerpack battery and just drop your Nokia on the mat for wireless charging.

They will also be offering two mobile mats that have built-in batteries that offer true wireless charging. Imagine placing your N900 on a mat without a single cord attached to the N900 or mat.

I’m hoping  that they haven’t forgotten about other popular Nokia models like the 5800, E72, E71 and N900 and release batteries for those models too.

Nokia CP-321 review: The N900 Case

                                                   Great deals on TV Brackets!

IMG_0929

The Nokia CP-321 is the official Nokia case for the N900 and is  a good example of a typical, contemporary Nokia case: no belt clip, device is held horizontally, high quality, simple design, cloth Nokia label and fairly high price. In fact, describing the N900’s CP-321 case is like describing the N97’s CP-323 (which we reviewed here). Other than the somewhat different dimensions, governed by the devices they were made for, the two look almost identical, but there are two obvious differences.

The CP-321 is made of leather, while the CP-323 uses a cloth material. This gives the N97+ CP-323 combo a very casual laid back look, while the CP-321+ N900 feels a bit more upscale and  has a very uniform look. Another difference is that the CP-321 is available in Black or White instead of the Black or Grey for the N97 case. What seems a bit strange  is that Nokia offers the CP-321 in two colors: Black or White. This makes sense for the N97 as it’s being offered in two colors. But what’s odd is that the same is being done for the N900, a device that’s  currently only being sold in Black. As far as we know there’s no White N900 in the works.

Nokia CP-321 review: The N900 Case

N97miniproportaalu

Not feeling the Nokia CP-390 for your N97 mini? Here’s an alternative from Proporta as they just released their famous Aluminium Lined Leather Case for the Nokia N97 Mini. Typical of their “Alu” leather cases, the N97 mini version has their Screen Saver System, which features a sheet of aircraft grade aluminium to guard the device against shocks and impact damage. Real leather? Check. Cut outs for access to device and can be used whilst in the case? Check.

It looks good with the overstitching, cream pinstripe lining and digging that cloth label on the side. Should give those N97 mini RAOUL Limited Edition owners a run for their money at $ 42.95.
