The 5800 XpressMusic has been out for a while now and with all its success you’d expect it to get the full Nokia treatment, like Nokia Internet Radio or viNe. But one of the biggest omissions is N-Gage support. The N97, basically a souped-up version of 5800 has N-Gage support, so why not support it on the 5800? Even E75, a business device (!) has N-Gage while, the 5800 XM, device all about entertainment doesn’t? Doesn’t make sense to me. With so many 5800 XM units out there, not supporting means locking a big share of Nokia users. Would you like to see N-Gage support on the 5800 XpressMusic?

Firing the built-in App. Update on the 5800 XpressMusic will come up with a mysterious Flash Lite 3.1 Update. Mysterious in the sense that this is the first time I see Flash Lite, a core part of the OS, being updated outside the regular firmware update. Usually this kind of stuff is imbedded in the new firmware. Could this be a start to quicker and more frequent updates to Flash Lite and or other components? We’ll be reporting soon if and when we see notable changes.
Update: According to the Adobe Flash Lite site, version 3.1 brings the following changes:
Update 2: Using the 5800 XpressMusic to watch the Desktop version of Youtube via the S60 browser, reveals much smoother video and quicker transition from standard to fullscreen view. But the biggest improvement comes to the Youtube seek bar: before the update it was most of the time difficult or impossible to use the seek bar, now it works perfectly.

We usually don’t cover new third party themes here at The Nokia Guide as there is such a wide selection and they are updated too often (with varying quality), which makes it something a bit difficult to effectively keep track of. On top of that themes do remain a very subjective matter. With so many out there it’s easy to find something to fit your taste, but what’s actually difficult to find are those original Nokia themes. Most Nokia devices come with just 3-5 preinstalled themes, making them pretty rare beasts, let alone getting hold of the original .sis file. In the case of the 5800 XpressMusic you only get 1 theme done in the color of the model you purchased, either Red, Black or Blue.Luckily, all three flavors of the 5800 XpressMusic theme are up for grabs. All is not well in Nokia land. It seems that two serious problems are affecting Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic which reportedly has sold more than 1 Million units. Now it seems that all 5800’s sold before February may have a defective speaker, which would basically mean all of them! Although not Nokia’s fault, but the supplier of these speaker, having sold so many of these, this issues could have come at worse time! Nokia is said to have replaced not only the speakers but also their supplier, which means that the new speakers are being used at the manufacturing plants, as well as in the service centers.
The second problem seems to be related to the newly released NAM version of 5800 XpressMusic which according to new users. The guy at Engadget who have gotten their hands on the new NAM flavor of the 5800 said that: “we can confirm that 3G appears to be a complete no-go — GSM works fine, but apart from a very brief 3.5G blip, we’re getting nothing in terms of UMTS or HSDPA.”
So far my 5800 is playing along as loud as ever, but if these reports are to be believed it won’t be playing for much longer. More info as it comes in, I do expect an official word from Nokia very soon.
