Nokia E71 and E66 get free navigation, While the N900 still waits

Both the Nokia E71 and E66 are getting the latest version of Ovi Maps with free walk and drive navigation. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Nokia generally has a habit of updating their most popular handsets long after their initial release. Especially the E71 is one of Nokia’s most popular device and is still a popular choice, reason enough for Nokia’s blessings in the form of this update.

E71 and E66 owners should get the latest firmware update by downloading the latest version of Nokia Software Update and than getting the latest version of OVI Maps for their devices.

Speaking of OVI Maps, isn’t there a certain Maemo 5-based device that still needs to get this update?

Currently the E71 is considred one of the best mobile phone deals around and is seen by many as one of the best Nokia devices of all time. The lack of 3.5mm headphone jack and a better camera are just about the only things needed to make it “just right.” Allaboutsymbian has uncovered information about the upcoming E72 that seems to address the camera. But we’re willing to bet that the now standard headphone jack will be included. The E72 is rumored to have S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 with the latest version of Nokia’s messaging and email software. Think an updated E71 with the software of the E75. From the looks of this, it won’t be long before Nokia makes it official.

Nokia E66 Dora confirmed, boring but businesslicious

E66dora_3After I talked about the E71 yesterday, today we finally have pictures to show the so called “not so pretty” E66. These pictures come to us courtesy of the Boy Genius report and despite earlier claims reveal a pretty nice looking E65 follow-up , that just like the E71, has the trademark E51 design cues. The picture is actually taken from a Vodafone roadmap, with features and all. Judging from the name splashed on the secret device that is now spreading across the net, I would say somebody is in big trouble. The device is reported to have built-in GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera, front-facing video call camera, Wi-Fi, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio with UMTS/HSDPA and 320×320 display. There are a few rumors floating around indicating that Nokia is going to play very US-friendly this time by releasing a US-specific model at the same time as the regular one! The device is said to launch in Q2 ’08 which to me seems a tad too late. Is it me or are these Eseries devices finally starting to look nice in a strange businesslicious sort of way?
