Nokia X7 Launching Soon?

Nokia-Agenda

Remember this picture? It showed an overview of all Nokia devices that were supposedly going to be launched. Now months later it really show how accurate it really is. It also seems to slowly build its way up to the top. At Nokia World 2010, as you now know Nokia introduced the E7, C7 and the N8 just started shipping. That left out one key device: the X7. Mobile Geek Inc. has uncovered some interesting info that seems to indicate that the X7 may be launching soon. We are hearing that this might happen as early as this month! The Xseries is reserved for music devices and the X7 should be the top music device, just one step above the X6.

Based on what the C7 product manager said, we know that the X7 will have a lot in common with the rest of the devices, as he revealed that “all exactly the same. Same hardware, same chipset, same everything, same clock speed, processor, absolutely everything. In terms of performance, there’s no compromise, they’re all running the same engines. The differences are in the way the peripherals are arranged between the devices.” This means that X7 should be another thin metal devices, like the C7, N8 and E7 with a large touch screen.

If we look at previous music devices like the N81 and N91 it logical to expect music keys and some kind of keyboard, but by the direction they went with the X6, Nokia seems to be moving away from media keys and even physical keyboards altogether on music devices. Some interesting tips we’ve been getting seems to indicate that the X7 will be something like the N8, but without the fancy camera, the first Nokia with 64GB of built-in storage, enhanced audio chip and some funky capacitive touch keys housed on the body of the device. We suggest you to take that with a grain of salt

How do you think the X7 will look like? What about the specs?

What Can We Expect From The Next Booklet?

Whattoexpectbooklet3g08

Nokia has said on many occasions that the original Booklet 3G, was just them dipping their toes in the water. With MeeGo set to be unveiled on Nokia hardware we should see follow-up devices unveiled by the end of the year for an early2011 release. From what we are hearing we might actually see two devices: a successor to the Booklet 3G  and a keyboard-less tablet running, no surprises here: MeeGo. While we have no clue as to what we can expect from a tablet, we do have an idea as to where Nokia might be taking the booklet.

1.Backlit keys: Nokia is offering the Booklet 3G as a premium device, hence the price, build quality and features. Nokia has also said that they plan on lowering the price, but we expect the follow-up to keep all of its premium features and add some new ones like back-lit keys, a distinguishing feature among premium notebooks, that is slowly entering the sub-$1000 price range, like the Alienware M11x.

2.Nvidia ION 2 with Optimus Technology: The Booklet 3G is equipped with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 which struggles with 720p and 1080 video, making it virtually unplayable. Any form of 3D gaming is only reserved for the most basic titles. The inability to play high-def video makes the inclusion of a HDMI port less useful. Adding Nvidia ION 2 makes playing HD video an effortless task, while Optimus means two video cards: An Nvidia dedicated video card and a power-saving Intel card. This way it will automatically switch between the two card to save battery.

If you’ve looked at today’s Booklet 3G video, you’ll notice an open application that clearly looks like an OVI Application, but doesn’t appear to be OVI Suite 1.1 or 2.

What do you think of the idea of having an OVI Chat desktop client that supports AIM, Windows Live, Yahoo and Google?

Nokia Cseries on the way?

NokiaCseriesontheway09

News is coming in that Nokia had filed a trademark application for “Cseries” back in April of this year. It’s anybody’s guess what this Cseries is going to mean for Nokia. One thing is for sure, the number in the Nseries are quickly running up, even faster when you consider that we won’t be seeing a N74, N84 or N94, as this is seen as bad luck in some Asian countries. Is this maybe the series to be used for the new Maemo-based device? Or a replacement for the Nseries? Or how about a series solely dedicated to imaging device, something like Sony Ericsson’s Cybershot?

What do you think this Cseries could be?

Nokia’s next Internet Tablet is a N97 on steroids!

nokian900rumor

MobileCrunch has revealed surprising information about  Nokia’s upcoming Internet Tablet. Most interesting part of the device is that it supports Quad-Band GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and WCDMA 900, 1700/2100, 2100! In typical Internet Tablet tradition, the only ways to connect to the internet was via Wi-Fi or tethering to another mobile device via Bluetooth. This bit of information would imply that  phone calls (not via Skype) and 3G/HSPA data connections would be possible. The unannounced device is also said to have similar camera specs to the N97, everything from the 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with dual-LED flash, autofocus and even sliding cover.

The OMAP3430 500/600 Mhz processor and 1GB total virtual runtime memory (256MB physical RAM, 768MB virtual memory would mean that this mysterious device should not only outperform the N97 in day to day task and multi-tasking, but also in 3D games.

This  so called N900 basically looks like a N97 with lots of extras with the exception of TV-out. More info can be found here.

Would you skip the N97 for this device?

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic firmware version 21.0.025 now available

nokia5800v21update4

Available as both a download via the Nokia Software Updater or via FOTA, firmware v.21.0.025 went live for additional product codes for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. This comes in just days after the same firmware went live for selected APAC (Asia-Pacific) product codes. During the coming weeks and in some cases months, we can expect this firmware to trickle down to other remaining product codes. While not a major firmware update, it does bring some useful, albeit small changes. The updates include a new Standby Breathing light and larger album art for audio files. The Standby Breathing light is similar to the one found on the E71, where the white light on the menu key of the 5800 slowly turns on and of to notify that the phone is turned on, but in power-saving mode with the screen turned off. This is different from the Notification light feature that was already present on the 5800 XpressMusic. This last feature quickly pulses the same light when a new message, email or missed call is received. The difference can be seen in the videos below:

Is Nokia prepping a 5800 to go alongside the 5800 XpressMusic

The best deals on TV WALL BRACKETS

A recent survey for Nokia Ovi Suite, right here, seems to indicate that Nokia might be getting ready for a newer or another version of the 5800 XpressMusic, simply called the “Nokia 5800.” A typo perhaps, but this seems to be in line with a report from Digitimes that: “Nokia plans to replace the resistive touch panel currently used in its 5800 handset with a capacitive touch panel in order to compete effectively with rival models from Apple, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, according to sources at Taiwan handset component suppliers.”

The reports  goes on saying that that: “Nokia’s initial orders for capacitive touch panels will be enough for the production of two million 5800 handsets, with shipments of the new version to begin in May-June, indicated the sources, who are familiar with Nokia’s roadmap.”

Nokia has a history of accidentally leaking unreleased products on their own sites, one example being the N95 8GB NAM version, which was spotted on a Nokia mobile site just before it’s launch.

What do you think? Typo or is the 5800 in the works?

No Nseries devices with Optical zoom in 2008?

Nooptical2008_2Nokia is really pushing the imaging side of their Nseries line with the N82 probably sporting the best camera in any mobile device. But in my opinion a camera phone is not complete until it has optical zoom. A pretty reliable source has stated that we won’t be seeing any Nseries devices this year with optical zoom. After getting both the N93 and N93i with 3X optical zooming, Nokia has been skipping this feature for way too long and having to wait till 2009 to get this feature is a bit of a disappointment. This type of information is still regarded as rumor until we see the actual products. And hopefully this is one of those rumor will stay just that: a rumor. So Nokia, if you are going to top the N82, the next device has got to have optical zooming.

N96specs_leakedStefan over at Intomobile has the scoop on the soon-to-be-released Nokia N96. When I say soon- to- be- released I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty soon, something like next week in Barcelona maybe? It seems like the Nokia.de site has posted the specs of the N96 a bit too early which might either indicate too much excitement for the impending release or that somebody is going to get in big trouble very soon.  Mark at the Nokia blog has translated the entire specs list here. I’m surprised to be honest. Why? Because of several interesting choices made when it comes to the N96. First of all I’m very surprised that they decided to include DVB-H. When it almost seemed like this standard was dead, Nokia puts it back into what seems to be like their next flagship device. Nokia sure seems to believe a lot in this feature to place it in the N96. Are they striking some deals to push DVB-H adoption, enough to put in their next flagship? When it comes to storage I think they sure got it right this time: Built-in 16 GB with the option of adding microSDHC cards: with upcoming 16 GB microSDHC cards this means that pretty soon we are going to hit the 32GB mark on the Nseries, pretty impressive stuff. Especially impressive if you consider that just a few years ago some Nokia devices were bundled with 16, 32 or 64Mb MMC cards. This should be the end of consumers having the unnecessary choice of having to choose between a device with built-in memory or one with swappable cards, like the N81 and N81 8GB. It’s also interesting how closely this resembles the N81. But as always the more questions you answer the more questions pop up. I’m still wondering about the dual slider and the media keys. If the media keys are near the D-pad like on the N81, than what is the dual slider used for?  DVB-H? If you finally add Xenon to N82 and everybody is happy, why go back LED flash? Why dual LED’s? My biggest question is however how the N96 fits into the bigger picture. With S60 touch on the way, what place should a S60 3rd edition device with FP2 have? Will this be top device of will we see things like the N97 and N98? What about that QWERTY Nseries we’ve been hearing about and how about that device with the optical zooming that looked like N90 and N95 mixed into one? I wish I had the answer, but sadly I don’t. I guess we’ll have to wait and see next week to find out. What do you think will happen next week?

Nokia E66 and E71 on the way?

E71confirmed_2Images have appeared of what is supposed to be the Nokia E71, the successors to the popular E61 and E61i. The device is said to have Wifi, HSDPA, GPS and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Another device that is said to be released is the E66 as a follow-up to the E65. From what I understand the device in question is described as “not the prettiest” among Nokia smartphones but I will have to wait and see to judge that. Are these devices on the way or wishful thinking? If they do become true I find them a bit boring with no surprises, just an evolution to current devices. In the mean time I’ll file these under rumors.
